History
The Inventor Mr Alan Burns identified the need for a tough, maintenance-free tire for use in harsh Australian outback conditions. He therefore devised the AirBoss® Tire. The Airboss tire technology is a very successful early version of a semi-solid puncture proof tire and has uniquely designed cushioned segments bolted into the rim. The technology was sold developed via Airboss America, a company co-founded by Mr Burns, which now generates revenues in excess of AU$250 million annually.
Mr Burns also has dedicated considerable time to a variety of inventions which have won a number of international awards. Along with the AirBoss® Tire, he has been directly responsible for Pursuit Dynamics Technology and the CETO Wave Energy Converter.

Mr Burns most recent invention, the Crocodile® Tire, is a more sophisticated airless tire design. The Crocodile Tire is an airless (semisolid) tire with some unique characteristics, and far superior than any previous concept. It provides a comfortable ride with the use of standard pneumatic rims, which are relatively inexpensive, light in weight and freely available. The result is a maintenance-free off the road tires, which provides exceptional tread life and durability, while at the same time providing a soft cushioned ride, to the benefit of operator comfort and machine transmission life.
Croc Tyres Pty Ltd is focused on developing and commercialising airless off the road tires technologies. Croc Tyres owns the patented Crocodile Tire technology and CROCODILE trademark and retains the exclusive right to manufacture and distribute Crocodile tires worldwide. Since its inception, the company has been actively developing Crocodile tire technology, with the view to becoming a global supplier of airless industrial tires through approved dealer networks. Manufacturing is outsourced to China and soon to be in other Asian countries with agreements secured with three manufacturers in 2004/05. Commercial tire sales began in mid-2006 in Western Australia, with ongoing sales to Bridgestone Tyres, BHP Iron Ore, Mineral Resources and many of the major Mining Houses. We also supply most of the Underground Drilling and Demolition companies in Australia and New Zealand..
The Crocodile Tire consists of a steel ring welded around the outer periphery of a standard pneumatic tire rim, onto which the tire rubber is bonded during the moulding (vulcanization) process. The Crocodile Tire uses two different rubber compounds in its construction: a resilient cushion compound and a tough, cut, tear and abrasion resistant tread compound. The cushion compound provides excellent ride cushioning characteristics, and suffers minimal heat build-up during use which translates to enhanced tire life. A carefully designed, patented void pattern is moulded into the sidewalls during vulcanization. This feature greatly enhances the cushioning characteristics of Crocodile tires and also reduces the rubber mass in the tire.
Crocodile’s technology is a puncture proof industrial tire and it is commercial ready.
Its major advantages are
• Its elimination of the need for a custom rim (required by other non- pneumatic tires) and • Superior ride comfort with key features protected by international patents • The ability to customise the disc centre to suit many various machines & applicationsApplications for the Crocodile Tire include mining, construction, recycling plants, forestry, quarries, demolition. Geographically, there are no boundaries, and the global market potential is clear.
There are clear favourable macro-environmental factors such as an ongoing construction & mining boom world-wide offering a large and growing market for skid steer loaders.
